Seeing Past Illusions

In a world fueled on lies and filled with false persons – those who wear masks to hide their true selves and motives or dark thoughts and tendencies – it’s important to remember that things may not always be as they seem. Those of us that operate with pure intentions and on the basis of truth and honesty may expect others to act in a similar fashion. Sadly, these dishonest individuals will sometimes seek to take advantage of one’s trust and unsuspecting innocence. And with all the misinformation online and in the media, it’s more important than ever that we learn to parse through all of the fabrications.

One way to do this is to trust our gut instincts, or our intuition, with regards to certain people and situations, and to be aware (and not dismissive) of each of the red flags that come up. Another is to ask the Divine for guidance and clarity, and to trust the signs that They send our way. To avoid being misled, we can do our own research regarding seemingly important bits of information we come across. We should not just take one source’s words as definite truth no matter how trustworthy or credible we believe them to be.

On another vein, there are also illusions that stem from societal conditioning, internalized biases, or past traumas which lead us to misperceive certain people and situations. In instances like these, where we may not have the capacity to see things clearly for ourselves, it might be helpful to obtain an unbiased, outside perspective from someone whose wisdom and insight we trust. But it’s also important to get as much clarifying information as possible directly from the source of our confusion. We can do this by asking questions and being honest about our feelings, doubts, and fears so that we can make way for truth through sincere conversations. In this way, we may be able to avoid misunderstandings between ourselves and others.

So let us use our inner eye (i.e. discernment) to see past worldly illusions, to the truth confirmed by our hearts. Let us trust our intuition and the signs we receive from the Divine – and not our physical eyes that lie – to avoid being deceived. And let us be mindful of our own biases and trauma triggers so that we don’t end up misleading ourselves.
